Chosen To Protect Each Other

Safeguarding God's People is now known as Safe Church and is offered online through Praesidium Academy.  These trainings serve to educate churches and ministries to keep children, youth, and adults safe from sexual, or other forms of abuse while at church or church related activities. It teaches how exploitation and harassment occur, the awareness we need to prevent such occurrences, and - should exploitation or harassment occur - how to respond.

Who needs this training?

  • All Clergy
  • All paid employees
  • All Vestry members (if Vestry of the whole, Jr. and Sr. Wardens only)
  • Youth Group directors
  • Sunday School directors
  • Lay Eucharistic Visitors
  • Anyone going into someone's home in any role related to the Church
  • Worship Leaders
  • Anyone who transports children, youth, or vulnerable adults

We are pleased to offer this important training online. There is no cost to take the training. EfM For All!

Every baptized person is called to ministry. EfM is a worldwide program developed by the School of Theology of the University of the South. It holds before us that the foundation for bringing Christ to the world lies in a Church empowered by an active, theologically articulate laity.

All Christians need a Christian education which supports their faith and which prepares them to express that faith in daily life. The Education for Ministry (EfM) program is a wonderful program of study and reflection that provides people from all walks of life with the education to grow in Christian faith and to carry out their ministries.

The EfM Web site (http://efm.sewanee.edu) and prospectus (available on the Web site) provide a wealth of information on the program, its mission, and an outline of the course of study for all four years.

EfM Online offers those who cannot attend a weekly face-to-face group an opportunity to participate in this course of study.

Are You Interested In Serving?

The Episcopal Diocese of Idaho licenses lay people to serve as Eucharistic Ministers and Eucharistic Visitors. Training for this ministry is conducted by an online study through HDSM and practicum through the local clergy.

A Eucharistic Minister is a lay person authorized to administer the consecrated elements at a Celebration of Holy Eucharist. A Eucharistic Minister acts under the direction of a deacon, if any, or otherwise, the member of the clergy or other leader exercising oversight of the congregation or other community of faith.

A Eucharistic Visitor is a lay person authorized to take the consecrated elements in a timely manner following a Celebration of Holy Eucharist to members of the congregation who, by reason of illness or infirmity, were unable to be present at the Celebration of the Eucharist. A Eucharistic Visitor acts under the direction of a deacon, if any, or otherwise, the member of the clergy or other leader exercising oversight of the congregation or other community of faith.

Here You Can Renew Your License

Every licensed minister is required to renew their license at a fixed interval. In some cases, it's every year, and the others could be three years. Regardless of the time frame for renewal, it is highly recommended that all those who are in licensed ministries take part in an annual study through the High Desert School for Ministry online program.

Studies through the HDSM online can be done at your own pace. All those licensed by the diocese are required to complete a course at least once a year, either in person or online. Please take your next renewal studies through HDSM.
